Princess Eugenie's Future Husband Will Not Receive A Title, Says Royal Butler

Princess Eugenie's future husband will not receive a royal title.

A number of experts believe that Jack Brooksbank will not be offered an earldom when he marries Princess Eugenie. Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton both received a royal title when they married Prince Harry and Prince William, respectively. But Princess Eugenie's spouse will not have the same honor.

Former royal butler Grant Harrold is the latest expert to comment about the matter. According to him, not all members of the royal family receive a title.

"Not all members of the Royal family are given further titles," Harrold told Express. "In fact, it has become normal practice for Royals not to be given titles. An example would be HRH Princess Anne's husband not getting a title."

[post_ads]"Princess Anne's children, Peter and Zara do not have royal titles either as they are not male lined grandchildren of the monarch (1917 letters patent)," he added. "Royal titles are normally reserved for more senior Royals or those in direct line of male succession as we have seen with The Duke of Cambridge’s wife and children."

Another expert has the same perspective. According to Marlene Koenig, Princess Eugenie's fiancé will not be offered a royal title after their royal wedding.

"Jack will not be getting any title from the Queen," Koenig said. "The precedent was set by Princess Alexandra and the Hon. Mr. Angus Ogilvy in 1963. He turned down an earldom. Princess Anne and Mark Phillips also turned down an earldom from the Queen in 1973."

Meanwhile, an insider told Charlotte Griffith that Princess Eugenie doesn't care about the title. Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson's daughter is reportedly "perfectly happy to be Mrs. Brooksbank."

Princess Eugenie can give up her title if she wants. However, Koenig doesn't think that this will happen.

"I sincerely doubt that Eugenie will do a Princess Patricia of Connaught and relinquish her title and adopt the style and title of a daughter of a Duke, which would be done by royal warrant," the expert said. "She will be styled either as HRH Princess Eugenie, Mrs. Brooksbank or she could choose not to use her husband's surname."

Princess Eugenie and Brooksbank are tying the knot on Oct. 12 at St. George's Chapel in Windsor Castle. Their wedding reception will be held at the Royal Lodge.
